1. Cotopaxi: Into the High Andes<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

If dramatic mountain landscapes, open spaces, and a little time away from the coast sound appealing, Cotopaxi National Park<\/strong> offers a completely different experience from the Gal\u00e1pagos<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are different ways to experience this landscape. “My favorite would have to be the Cotopaxi visit because I really like the mountains. I don’t normally get to spend much time off the islands these days, so it’s really nice when I do get the chance.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

“Horseback riding there feels like being in a completely different Ecuador. The low brush, wide-open landscape, cool mountain air, and views of Cotopaxi are absolutely beautiful. It’s quieter and less adrenaline-filled, but just as memorable.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For Laura, Cotopaxi holds special memories of experiencing that contrast with her family and watching her children discover a completely different side of Ecuador: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI went to Cotopaxi with my family, and it was such a special experience for all of us. My children absolutely loved riding the horses dressed in the full chagra outfits, and of course feeding the llamas was a huge hit! For me, I loved seeing them experience such a completely different side of Ecuador. Coming from the Gal\u00e1pagos<\/a>, the wide-open p\u00e1ramo, the mountains, and having Cotopaxi there in front of you feels like another world. It\u2019s definitely one of those family experiences we still talk about.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For our team, though, it’s the feeling of being surrounded by nature that makes Mindo special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karen loves the wider experience of being there and thinks of Mindo as a great place to visit with the family: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Amazing, beautiful, filled with nature, rivers, and forest. It’s such a unique place, not only in Ecuador but in the whole world. It’s just a beautiful place to go with the family.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

And for Crystal, one experience in particular stands out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Mariposas de Mindo is just magical. I love learning about the butterflies and their life cycle, but mostly I love simply being surrounded by them. They’re such beautiful creatures, and having them land on you and eat fruit right out of your hand never gets old.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For Laura, it’s Mindo’s birdlife that keeps drawing her back. As a keen birdwatcher, she particularly appreciates just how different the experience is from watching birds at home in the Gal\u00e1pagos<\/a>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMindo is probably my favorite. My husband (Pablo) and I both love birdwatching, and it still amazes me just how many different species you can see there. Living in the Gal\u00e1pagos, I\u2019m lucky enough to be surrounded by incredible birds and wildlife all the time, but Mindo is completely different. The colors, the hummingbirds, and the sheer variety of birdlife are amazing. “Ba\u00f1os is a great place to have fun and explore waterfalls. There are swings that can make you feel like you’re swinging over the edge of the world, and my favorite is ziplining over the amazing landscapes and drops that Ba\u00f1os has. It’s a mix of nature and adventure that I love.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Laura enjoys that same mix, particularly the feeling that you’re not simply looking at the landscape but getting out and experiencing it: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat I love about Ba\u00f1os is that you\u2019re not just looking at this incredible landscape; you\u2019re out there experiencing it. You can be hiking to waterfalls, canyoning or doing something completely out of your comfort zone. It\u2019s fun, it’s in nature, and it\u2019s active.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
