Day 1
Fly from Quito to Coca, Long Boat Transfer to Amazon Lodge on Napo River

Lunch and Dinner Provided.

A morning transfer to the airport in Quito will get your on your way to the Amazon! Upon arrival you’ll be met by a representative from La Selva Lodge who will take you to the Napo River for your 2.5-3 hour long boat ride to the lodge. As you venture along the river you’ll get used to the lush, green Amazon environment. Once at the lodge dock, a bamboo boardwalk pathway takes you into the jungle and the smells, sights, sounds of the rainforest will start to come alive. Once you paddle across Garzacocha Lake, you’ll be at the lodge! La Selva is one of the original eco lodges in the Ecuadorian Amazon and went through extensive upgrades in 2012 featuring modern facilities, exquisite cuisine and comfortable, open air accommodations. You’ll have time to get out and explore the area by taking one of the nature trails near the lodge.

Day 2-4
Explore the Amazon, Take Advantage of all the Activities

All Breakfasts, Lunches and Dinners Provided.

Your free days in the Amazon can be as busy or as relaxing as you want them to be. If some quiet hammock time appeals to you, there is no shortage of places to lie back and soak up the surroundings. If being active is your preference, then you can climb to the top of the 35m observation tower for bird’s eye views of the forest canopy, where monkeys, birds, insects and plants all come into view. Your experienced naturalist guides all speak Spanish and English, so every hike and excursion is a great learning experience as well as a fun adventure.

Hiking trails are plentiful here, most of them ranging from 2-4 hours in length. Some trails like the Matapalo and Sacha Huagra trails feature different plants and flowers, like the giant kapok, rubber trees or fig trees. Other trails, like the Coto and Mandinan, offer chances of spotting mammals and wildlife along the shoreline of the local lakes. The lodge area itself is known as one of the best birding locations in the Amazon and is where the Long-tailed Potoo was first spotted.

A Butterfly farm and spa, as well as Parrot Clay Lick in nearby Yasuni National Park are also available for you to take advantage of. If a more challenging hike, and cultural experience, appeals to you then the hike to Silverio’s House across Garzacocha Lake will take you past some indigenous villages along a rugged path on the Napo River. Canoe rides, fishing for piranhas and night hikes will also keep you busy; while optional (at your own cost) excursions to visit the primate rich Panacocha area or take a sunset cruise are possibilities too.

Note: If you book the 4 Day / 3 Night tour, you will have one less day of exploring the Amazon and will return to Quito on Day 4. Keep in mind that activities mentioned in this itinerary are an example only. Exact activities will vary on every trip, based on ideal wildlife sightings and personal preferences. Our Tour Dossier has a more complete list of activity options.
