Our core tour in Peru! Galakiwi has been combining Peru and Machu Picchu tours with our Galapagos adventures for many years, and we’ve finally decided to offer this great trip on its own.
Peru is well worth a visit, and not just because of Machu Picchu. In the span of a week you can dine on some of the finest, freshest seafood (ceviche, anyone?) in South America, visit ancient Incan Ruins and fall in love with Andean culture, including their amazing textiles and the alpacas that they’re made from.
No trip to Peru would be complete without spending time in Lima. The capital of the country is completely different from Cusco, but equally rewarding in terms of travel experiences.
After getting to know your travel group, we head into the Andes with a fairly relaxed day in Cusco to help you acclimatize to the altitude, enjoying a little coca tea will help in the process as well!
Your journey towards Machu Picchu takes you through Pisac, Moray and Ollantaytambo. Perhaps some empanadas or maybe some cuy (guinea pig) will be on the menu. Ollantaytambo is a classic Incan city, hidden amongst towering Andean mountain peaks, with great terraced hillsides in the background, dating back to Incan times.
Aguas Calientes, also called Machu Picchu Pueblo, is the base for exploring famous Machu Picchu. We’ll journey here by scenic train. If you simply can’t wait, as a special option, you can choose to do a mini 1-day hike to Machu Picchu today, just let us know! The next day you’ll get a guided tour, along with plenty of free time to savor the morning hours at this magnificent site.
Extra time in Cusco has been carefully planned after your day at Machu Picchu, so that you can explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
