Aquatic Safety and Emergency Response Training Comes to San Cristóbal

Because safety is an essential part of every great adventure.

We’re proud to support the upcoming Aquatic Safety and Risk Management Workshop, organized by ECUALIFEGUARD in San Cristóbal. This event will bring together lifeguards, park rangers, tourism operators, hotel staff, security personnel, and first responders for specialized training focused on water safety, rescue techniques, risk management, and emergency response.

Led by international experts, the workshop will include hands-on training in ocean rescue with rescue boards, pool and aquatic facility rescue, river and flood rescue, and the development of emergency and risk management plans.

For us, supporting initiatives like this is a natural extension of our commitment to responsible tourism in the Galápagos.

As a local tour operator, we understand that the islands' beauty comes with unique challenges. Many of the sites we visit are remote, with uneven volcanic terrain, changing ocean conditions, and limited access to immediate assistance. While these environments create unforgettable experiences, they also require careful planning and preparation.

That is why we regularly invest in training opportunities for our guides, helping them develop the skills needed to respond effectively in emergency situations. Our guides are trained in Wilderness First Aid (WFA), which focuses on assessing and treating injuries in remote environments where professional medical assistance may be more than an hour away. Combined with detailed emergency protocols and ongoing training, these skills help us provide safer experiences for our travelers.

At the same time, safety is not something any one organization can achieve alone. It depends on a strong network of trained professionals working together across the tourism and conservation community. Workshops like this help strengthen that network by creating opportunities to share knowledge, improve preparedness, and build local capacity.

For both residents and visitors, these efforts contribute to a safer Galápagos and a more resilient tourism sector.

We’re happy to support this initiative on our home island of San Cristóbal and contribute to efforts that help keep adventurers safe while exploring the archipelago.

A special thank you to Fernando Saltos and ECUALIFEGUARD for allowing us to be part of this important initiative. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this training will have across the Galápagos community.
