Green Energy Certification: A New Step for Galakiwi

Galakiwi is moving to a new location in San Cristóbal, but dont worry our new office will be just a few blocks from our current office. While the move is a small one, we are using the opportunity to make an important step toward more sustainable operations.

One of the areas we wanted to address was the energy that supports our everyday work. Electricity generation in the Galápagos still relies significantly on imported diesel fuel, making the transition toward renewable energy particularly important for the islands. While renewable energy projects are growing across the archipelago, much of the electricity system still depends on conventional fuel sources.

As part of our new space, we decided to install 24 solar panels, which are expected to generate approximately 15,936 kWh of clean energy each year and reduce our carbon emissions by around 6.4 tons of CO₂ annually.

We’re happy to share that, following the installation of the panels, our new building has received its Green Energy Certification.

For us, having a more energy-efficient workspace is another practical way to reduce our impact and continue looking for ways to make our operations more responsible. As a Galápagos-based company, we know that sustainability is not achieved through one single action. It is built through the decisions we make every day and the improvements we continue to make over time.

This certification is more than a recognition. It represents another step in an ongoing process of improving how we operate and finding new ways to reduce our environmental footprint.

Sustainability is something we keep building as we grow.
