Max’s Thoughts on the Galapagos after being a Galakiwi Intern
Intern Work - Snorkel with Sea Turtles

Some insights from Max, one of our first-ever interns, who joined Galakiwi way back in 2011.

There are so many awesome things about being an intern at Galakiwi it is hard to know where to start!

First off, Ecuadorian cuisine is great.  There are a lot of opportunities to practice Spanish and learn new terms specific to Ecuador.  The people you work with are friendly, from the office staff, tour guides, and hotel operators; to the eager clientele who are on the trip of a lifetime.  On the natural side of things I had experiences that I would not have even dreamed of (mostly at Kicker Rock).  I knew I would have a great time in the Galapagos but my expectations were surpassed in every way.  The heavy work load involved is well worth it.

I was also lucky enough to get a job in the tourism industry within a year of completing the internship.  I would not have gotten the job were it not for having the once in a lifetime opportunity to live in the Galapagos Islands for three months.

Hopefully someday I can have another travel experience as great as the one I had in Ecuador but I will always look back on my time there as the best months of my life.
